Ken Ofori-Atta Declared Wanted Again After Missing Meeting
The Office of the Special Prosecutor has declared Ken Ofori-Atta wanted again. He missed a scheduled meeting on June 2, 2025.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyabeng announced this at a press conference. He called Ofori-Atta's behavior unacceptable. Agyabeng accused Ofori-Atta's lawyers of acting in bad faith.
He mentioned that extradition processes have begun. Ofori-Atta is now listed on Interpol's red notice. The office wants him to appear in person, not virtually.
Agyabeng stated, "Mr. Ofori-Atta's conduct is totally unacceptable." He declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice.
Timeline of Events
On January 24, 2025, the Special Prosecutor notified Ofori-Atta he was a suspect in five cases. He was directed to appear in person by February 10, 2025.
On January 31, his lawyers said he would be outside Ghana indefinitely for medical reasons. They offered to represent him while he was away.
On February 5, the Special Prosecutor rejected this claim and demanded a return date by February 10. Agyabeng warned of legal consequences for non-compliance.
On February 10, Ofori-Atta’s lawyers submitted a doctor’s note about his medical tests in the US. The Special Prosecutor received this letter with skepticism.
On February 12, the Special Prosecutor declared him a fugitive from justice due to an arrest warrant.
On February 18, Ofori-Atta appealed to have his name removed from the wanted list. He promised to return to Ghana in May, and his name was taken off the list after this assurance.
Following this, Agyabeng set a deadline of June 2 for Ofori-Atta to report in person.
On March 16, Ofori-Atta sued the Office of the Special Prosecutor for being declared wanted.
On May 28, the court adjourned his case until June 18.
