The Deputy National Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, Dr. Sofo Tanko Rashid Computer, has made serious allegations. He claims former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is avoiding the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) by pretending to be unwell.
Dr. Tanko spoke during a live interview on TV3’s New Day with Roland Walker. His comments followed recent developments in the OSP's investigation into alleged corruption.
“Ken Ofori-Atta is not sick! He’s well and hearty,” Dr. Tanko stated. “He’s just playing hide and seek.” He believes Ofori-Atta understands the seriousness of the crimes being investigated.
Dr. Tanko noted that Ofori-Atta's legal team requested a virtual interrogation. This request supports his claim that the former minister is trying to evade accountability.
The OSP recently declared Ken Ofori-Atta wanted again. This decision follows his failure to appear before them on June 2, 2025, despite earlier assurances to cooperate.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng described Mr. Ofori-Atta as a fugitive from justice. The OSP has initiated extradition steps and requested an INTERPOL Red Notice for his arrest.
This marks the second time Mr. Ofori-Atta has been declared wanted. He was removed from this list in February 2025 after promising to return voluntarily in May.
In the same interview, Dr. Tanko praised President John Dramani Mahama's efforts against corruption. He said public officials are now held to higher ethical standards under Mahama's leadership.
“President Mahama aims to build a prosperous nation free from corruption,” Dr. Tanko explained. “He has warned appointees to avoid misusing public funds.”
After nearly six months in office, there have been no corruption scandals reported, according to him.
Dr. Tanko urged everyone, especially Mr. Ofori-Atta’s legal team, to support Mahama’s “Reset Ghana” agenda for national renewal and public trust.
Ken Ofori-Atta served as Ghana’s Finance Minister from 2017 to 2024 under President Nana Akufo-Addo. He led significant financial initiatives but faced growing debt concerns and allegations of mismanagement during his tenure.
Currently, he is under investigation by the OSP for multiple alleged offences related to procurement breaches and misuse of public funds involving the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Tax Refund Account.
His lawyers claim he is unwell and needs surgery, delaying his return to Ghana.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is Ghana's main independent anti-corruption agency. It was established in 2018 to investigate and prosecute corruption-related offences involving public officers.
