Frank Davies, a member of Ken Ofori-Atta's legal team, raised concerns about public understanding of his client's health issues. He stated that the former Finance Minister is currently receiving treatment in the United States.
During an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Davies explained a hypothetical situation. He asked if someone would expect to see him after suffering a health setback. He questioned why it is hard for people to accept that Ofori-Atta has health challenges.
Davies noted that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was informed about Ofori-Atta's inability to attend an interrogation due to medical reasons. A letter was sent to the OSP on May 27, but they have not acknowledged receipt.
On June 2, Ken Ofori-Atta missed another appointment with the OSP. His legal team confirmed he could not attend due to health complications. They communicated this development formally and submitted medical reports detailing his condition and upcoming surgery.
Reports indicate that Ofori-Atta is willing to participate in the investigation virtually. However, the OSP has not updated the public on this matter yet.
The OSP previously accused him of causing financial loss to the state through various dealings. These include projects related to the National Cathedral and contracts involving ECG and Health Ministry services.
In a press conference, the OSP referred to him as a fugitive and provided details about his background. They stated he left Ghana around January 2, 2025, and was considered a suspect in four cases by January 24, 2025.
Ofori-Atta's lawyers informed the OSP that he was out of jurisdiction indefinitely for medical reasons. The OSP had expected him at their headquarters on June 2, 2025.
They warned that if he fails to appear, he will be placed back on their wanted list.
