Former Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong has called for calm in Bawku. Renewed violence in the area has led to multiple deaths and injuries.
In a statement on Sunday, April 13, he expressed concern over rising tensions. This followed a violent clash between police and youth on April 10. The unrest reportedly caused casualties and damage to MP Mahama Ayariga's home.
Agyapong urged the youth to stay calm. He emphasized that no grievance justifies loss of life or community destruction. He stated, “Our peaceful coexistence is essential for Ghana’s prosperity.”
He commended President John Dramani Mahama for starting a mediation process. This initiative is led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene. It was originally launched under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Agyapong noted this shows statesmanship and national unity. He encouraged all parties to support the Otumfuo-led committee in restoring peace. He stressed that stability is crucial for national progress.
“When there is peace in Bawku, there is peace in Ghana,” he said. No part of the country can thrive while another suffers, he added. Agyapong concluded by urging everyone to help restore lasting peace.
He stated, “Let us all play our part.”
