Keta MCE, Forestry Commission launch ‘Tree for Life’ initiative at Tsiame

Tsiame was vibrant on Wednesday morning, June 5, 2025. Students, community leaders, and residents gathered at the RC School park. They came to witness the launch of the Tree for Life initiative. This initiative is part of the TDM Reforestation Drive. Its goal is to restore Ghana’s forest cover.

The event featured Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Wisdom Seade. Also present was Mr. Sackey, Director of the Forestry Commission for Sogakofe. Assembly member David Kpata and Dumega Adonu attended as well. Representatives of Togbi Doe Dallah were also there, along with the headmaster and teachers from Tsiame RC School.

Mr. Sackey spoke on behalf of the Forestry Commission. He expressed concern about deforestation's alarming rate and its environmental impact. He urged community members, especially youth, to adopt tree planting as a lifestyle.

MCE Seade praised the initiative during his remarks. He connected it to President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for reducing carbon emissions. He emphasized trees' critical role in ecological balance and encouraged students to nurture planted trees.

To celebrate the occasion, key figures planted trees at the local chapel entrance. This act symbolized their commitment to a greener future. Over 200 seedlings were distributed at the launch, including raffia palm and mahogany.

The Forestry Commission will deliver an additional 1,500 seedlings next week. These will be planted across Tsiame and nearby forest areas mapped during a recent tour with Mr. Gabriel Klu Gbafa from TDM.

The Tree for Life launch will extend to other communities by June's end. Planting will officially start between June and September. A community town hall meeting is planned once all seedlings are received.

This meeting will guide locals on best practices for tree planting and care.
