The Constitution Review Committee (CRC) is reviewing Ghana's 1992 Constitution.
They have held discussions with distinguished statesmen and legal experts.
These meetings aim to gather expert input on potential constitutional reforms.
The CRC consulted both living former presidents:
John Dramani Mahama served from 2012 to 2016. He shared insights from his time as president and opposition leader.
John Agyekum Kufuor was president from 2001 to 2008. He provided perspectives based on his administration's experiences.
Key figures from Ghana's legislative and judicial branches also participated:
Speaker Alban Bagbin is the current Speaker of Parliament. He is the longest-serving MP in Ghana's history.
Former Speaker Prof. Mike Oquaye served from 2017 to 2020.
Former Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo led the judiciary from 2017 to 2019.
The committee engaged with framers of the current constitution:
Nana S.K.B. Asante chaired the Committee of Experts that drafted it.
Nana Ato Dadzie was Chief of Staff under President Rawlings. He played a key role in transitioning to constitutional rule.
Prominent scholars and practitioners contributed their views:
Sam Okudzeto is a renowned lawyer and former Council of State member.
Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi is a governance expert who helped design Ghana's decentralization system.
The CRC plans more consultations with other eminent persons soon.
