Kidi was born Dennis Nana Dwamena to Gerald and Beatrice Thompson. He was born on August 18, 1993. Kidi is signed to Lynx Entertainment, a record label that manages his career.

Kidi attended St. Anthony’s School in Accra. After Junior High School, he went to Accra Academy for Senior High School. He later studied Information Studies at the University of Ghana.

While at university, Kidi performed at "Morning Cafe" events. These events showcase underground artists' talents. He also enjoyed recording covers of popular songs.

Kidi joined MTN Hitmaker in 2015 and won the competition. After winning, he signed with Lynx Entertainment. Initially, he struggled with his music career until he had a breakthrough.

Since 2017, Kidi has rapidly grown as an artist. His song "Odo," released in July 2017, boosted his popularity. The remix featuring Mayorkun and Davido came out in December 2017.
