Kidnapping case: Police to transport victims, suspects to Ghana

The Ghana Police Service is working with Nigerian authorities. They are facilitating the transportation of two victims and suspects involved in a recent kidnapping case back to Ghana.

The police, along with the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and Nigeria Police Force, rescued two female victims. These victims were featured in a viral video that caused public outrage. The video showed them in distress.

In a joint operation, eight suspects were arrested for the kidnapping. Arrests occurred in both Ghana and Nigeria. Law enforcement agencies worked together to track down the suspects at various hideouts.

DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor addressed journalists in Accra on May 7. She is the Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). She stated that efforts are underway to transfer both victims and suspects safely.

“As of today, both suspects and victims are with Nigerian authorities,” she said. “Efforts are being made to transport the victims to Ghana.” She also mentioned extraditing the suspects to assist investigations.

DCOP Donkor revealed that families paid GHS18,000 as ransom demands. However, she assured the public that the victims are stable. “Information from our counterparts in Nigeria indicates that both victims are fine,” she added. They have received routine medical checks.
