Killer of UEW Science Professor caged

The prime suspect in the murder of Professor Mawuadem Amedeker has been remanded. He is Joshua Karry Arthur, a senior lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW). The Winneba Magistrate Court ordered his custody.

Arthur was arrested on May 22 at the professor’s home in Gyahadze. This followed weeks of concern over the professor's disappearance.

What started as a missing person case turned tragic. Police found Prof. Amedeker’s body buried near his home. His remains are now at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital mortuary for an autopsy.

Police recovered several personal items believed to belong to the professor. These include a laptop, two Samsung smartphones, a 50-inch television, and a Toyota Fortuner car key.

The discovery shocked the Gyahadze community. In response, Effutu Divisional Police Command increased security in the area.

Divisional Commander ACP Ibrahim Opoku stated that investigations began on May 21. They started after receiving a missing persons report. A young man questioned during the search later disappeared, leading police back to the professor's home.

Investigations are ongoing as police seek to uncover more details about the murder.
