Ghanaian youngster Kingsford Boakye has made history. He is the first Everton player to score from open play at the club’s new stadium.
Boakye joined Everton from AC Milan last year. He scored for the U-21 side in a 1-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers. This match was part of a test event at Everton Stadium.
The forward headed the ball into the net after a great cross from Roman Dixon. The cross came from the right flank and broke the deadlock in the game.
Boakye entered the match as a substitute at halftime. He scored from six yards out in front of the South Stand, sealing the win for Everton.
The victory left fans happy as the match ended after 65 minutes. This timing was part of a planned evacuation for safety approvals at the new stadium.
This game is part of Everton's preparations to move from Goodison Park to their new 25,000-seat stadium.
