Kodua disputes counterfeit claims, says seized gold and dollars are authentic

In a recent interview on Atumpan, Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), questioned the government's claims. The government stated that seized gold bars and foreign currencies were counterfeit.

Kodua argued that this narrative does not match the investigation's findings. He said, “The gold bars and the dollars are not fake.” He added that authorities initially thought the warehouse belonged to an NPP member. However, investigations revealed it actually belonged to an NDC member.

He highlighted an important detail from the investigation. The currencies found were in Bank of Ghana boxes. “If so, how can we say that the contents are also fake?” he asked.

This operation was uncovered in February 2025. It took place in an abandoned building posing as a battery-charging shop. Law enforcement seized ten 40-foot containers filled with forged Ghanaian cedis, US dollar notes, and gold-plated metals.

Investigators suspect two additional containers were moved before the raid. This suggests that the operation was well-planned and ongoing.

A key figure in this investigation is a man known as “Alhaji.” Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at National Security Secretariat, linked Alhaji to the Sapeiman crime scene. He indicated that Alhaji is part of a larger network involved in financial crimes.

“Alhaji is a central figure in this syndicate,” Kodua stated. Efforts are underway to bring him to justice.

The raid has raised questions about the operation's depth and those behind it. High-profile individuals' involvement continues to spark public debate across Ghana. Many people, including Kodua, demand clarity and transparency in this investigation.
