IMANI Africa’s Vice President, Kofi Bentil, has proposed legislation to prevent last-minute public sector recruitments before presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Bentil supported the dismissal of workers hired under the previous administration, arguing that such rushed employment often lacks proper due process.
His comments come as the new government directs the dismissal of state employees recruited before the December 2024 elections who are still on probation. Authorities claim these hires were politically motivated and improperly conducted.
Bentil believes a law is needed to curb this practice, preventing mass layoffs that create public discontent whenever there is a change in government.
