Kofi Tonto, a political aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This came after over 2,600 containers meant for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) were found at Tema Port.
On May 27, 2025, Tonto posted on Facebook. He mocked the NDC for spreading misinformation about the previous NPP administration. He referenced claims that the NPP had stolen and sold these containers.
“Trust these liars and scammers at your own peril,” he added. His comments followed a government investigation revealing 2,637 containers originally destined for ECG.
A joint task force conducted this probe. It included National Security, the Ministry of Transport, GPHA, and Customs. They found that the containers were not missing but unaccounted for due to poor documentation.
Initially, only 1,300 containers were reported missing. This sparked political controversy and accusations against the NPP government. However, discovering all 2,637 containers has changed the narrative significantly.
