Koforidua MCE orders citywide clean-up to tackle flooding, sanitation challenges

The New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ransford Owusu Boakye, has announced plans to tackle flooding and poor sanitation in Koforidua.

On Saturday, May 24, 2025, all shops and market centers will close temporarily. This closure will be from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. It aims to facilitate a citywide communal labor exercise. Transport operators must also suspend operations during this time.

Mr. Boakye spoke to journalists after taking office. He expressed his commitment to addressing sanitation and drainage issues in the municipality. “We are starting with communal labor this weekend,” he said.

His information officer has already informed residents about the event. He urged everyone to participate fully on Saturday. “No one is going to the market that day; we are all going to be on the field,” he emphasized.

The clean-up will start at 7 a.m. and end at 10 a.m. Afterward, residents can return to their regular activities.

In addition to sanitation efforts, Mr. Boakye toured stalled road construction projects in the municipality. He assured residents of Abogri and Zongo communities that he would address their poor road networks.

“I will review what is in the pipeline for these roads,” he stated. He acknowledged that some issues have persisted for a long time, especially in Zongo areas. “In about a month, we should be able to provide updates on this issue,” he added.
