Former Deputy Trade Minister Murtala Mohammed is pressing Trade Minister K.T. Hammond for transparency about payments to West African Agro Limited, the new managers of the Komenda Sugar Factory.
Despite Hammond’s denial of monthly payments, stating negotiations for an annual fee of over $1 million, Mohammed demands clarity on the exact amount.
He and Yusif Sulemana are preparing to summon Hammond before Parliament.
Meanwhile, sugar cane out-growers are upset over the government’s plan to import semi-refined sugar and are demanding answers on how their local sugar will be used.
