The acting CEO of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere, has raised alarm over the theft of crucial medical equipment, particularly copper pipes that supply oxygen to patients. He described the incidents as a severe threat to healthcare delivery.
During an inspection of ongoing rehabilitation works, Dr. Owusu-Sekyere revealed that the hospital is tightening security, including hiring private guards to supplement its internal team.
While CCTV cameras are in place, their lack of real-time monitoring remains a challenge.
He lamented the financial strain, noting that replacing stolen copper pipes costs the hospital about GHS400,000, while thieves sell them for as little as GHS50. He assured the public of intensified efforts to curb the menace and protect hospital resources.
