The Renal Unit at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has been closed for over a week. This closure has left many patients without essential dialysis treatments. Patients are feeling distressed and uncertain about their health.
Frustrated patients have expressed concerns about the lack of communication from hospital authorities. They note that no official explanation has been given for the sudden shutdown. This silence has increased fears about health risks from missed treatments.
Kojo Baffour Ahenkora, spokesperson for the Renal Patients Association, confirmed the unit's closure. He shared that patients are experiencing anxiety and worsening health due to treatment disruptions. Many are facing complications because they cannot receive their scheduled care.
Ahenkora mentioned specific complaints from patients. "Some cannot sleep, feel fatigued, and are vomiting," he said. He emphasized the need for better communication from the hospital.
He urged hospital officials to engage with patient representatives. "We need to know what challenges they face," he added. This would help patients prepare financially for private care if necessary.
In response to these concerns, the hospital's Public Relations Officer is in talks with management. They aim to address patient worries and provide updates on the situation.
