Korle Gonno fisherman sentenced to 1 week in prison for assault

The Gender-Based Violence Court in Accra has sentenced Nii Baah Afful. He is a 29-year-old fisherman. Afful received one week in prison with hard labour. This sentence is for physically assaulting his partner, Francisca Aryee.

The assault happened on March 20, 2025, at Korle Gonno. Witnesses saw him attack Aryee while she held their 8-month-old baby. The couple lived together and had two children.

Afful was arrested on March 22, 2025. The Accra Regional Police Intelligence Unit took him into custody. He was remanded by the court after his arrest.

He appeared in court on March 24 and pleaded guilty on April 9, 2025. As a result, he was sent to Nsawam Maximum Security Prison.

On April 11, the Greater Accra Police Command issued a statement. They urged the public to report all forms of domestic abuse. They encouraged victims to seek help through legal and support channels.
