Krobo Chief Appeals To Ghacem To Complete Odumase-Tema-Akosombo Highway Project

Nene Tettey Akora I's Appeal for Bridge Construction

Nene Tettey Akora I has made a heartfelt appeal. He is asking Ghana Cement (Ghacem) and the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly for help. The goal is to construct a bridge that will complete a link road. This road connects Odumase Krobo to the Tema-Akosombo highway.

Currently, the road is unfinished. It stops at a small stream just 2 kilometers from completion. Commuters and haulage trucks must take a 9-kilometer detour through Kpong. This includes trucks from Ghacem’s limestone mines.

The chief believes completing the bypass would benefit many people. It would ease travel for commuters and reduce vehicle wear and tear. This would lower transportation costs and boost economic activities in the area.

Ghacem Ltd is an important taxpayer and contributor to the local council. Nene Tettey Akora I thinks Ghacem's support could help finish the bypass. This project would benefit both the company and the local community.

Completing this link road could bring several advantages. These include reduced travel time, improved safety, and increased economic opportunities.

A source from the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly shared insights anonymously. They noted that this road connects Aklomuase to a neglected sports stadium project. The previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government had revisited it recently.

Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr. Simon Kwaku initiated reconstruction efforts at the stream site. His intention was to link it to the Tema-Akosombo road, but he couldn't finish before losing in 2024 elections.

The source expressed hope that new MCE Mr. Atteh Matey will complete this project as well.

Ghacem has been mining limestone in Krobo since 2004 through West Africa Quarries Ltd (WAQL). This operation began under then-President John Agyekum Kufuor’s administration.

Over two decades, Ghacem has positively impacted the local economy by creating jobs for drivers and mechanics. Limestone is transported from Odugblase to Tema via Kpong or through another route via Odumase Krobo, Somanya, Madina, and Mallam Junction to Takoradi factory.
