Suame Member of Parliament, John Darko, supports the new Mayor of Kumasi. He appreciates the mayor's commitment to cleaning up the city. However, he urges the mayor to use lawful methods.
Darko spoke on Channel One Newsroom about the urgency of the mayor’s mission. He believes it comes from a genuine desire for change in Kumasi.
He warned against using overly aggressive tactics. “Our city needs help,” he said. “I agree that we need to clean up.”
Darko noted that the mayor's enthusiasm is good for Kumasi. However, he emphasized that methods are important too. “Flogging people is not the way to go,” he stated.
He suggested enforcing local laws instead. This would help ensure the mayor can fulfill his mandate effectively.
Darko stressed removing politics from city management. He believes mayors should have freedom to act within legal limits. “Let’s depoliticize these things and allow mayors to work,” he urged.
He also commented on those seeking national attention too quickly. “They are too hasty to be relevant,” he said, referring to their motivations for being heard.
