Akosua Manu, a former NPP parliamentary candidate for Adentan, has criticized Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi. She reacted strongly to his threat against traders on city pavements.
Manu spoke on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily. She called the mayor's comments dangerous and unacceptable in a democracy.
She expressed disbelief that a leader would threaten physical assault. Manu was shocked that the mayor stood by his remarks when questioned.
According to Manu, the mayor should have been removed immediately for his threats. She believes such behavior undermines good governance and must not be tolerated.
“He should have been the shortest-serving appointee in this government,” she said. Manu argued that the President should have acted quickly to dismiss him.
She warned that the mayor's approach sets a bad example for other officials. If unchecked, it could lead to similar actions across the country.
“For reiterating that point, he should have been withdrawn,” she stressed. There is no justification for such comments from a public official.
Manu cautioned that these remarks could incite disorder in other municipalities. “He is creating an avenue for chaos,” she stated.
If this behavior continues, other mayors might follow suit. She emphasized that any enforcement must be civil and humane; no one should be harmed.
