Kumasi Mayor to commence decongestion of the city on April 16

The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Richard Ofori Boadi, has issued a warning. He wants all people occupying pavements and unauthorized spaces in the Central Business District to leave. This is ahead of a major decongestion exercise on April 16.

Mr. Boadi, the newly-confirmed city mayor, aims for sustainable solutions. He wants to address the congestion problem effectively.

“If you are selling on the pavement, adjust yourself,” he said. “If you are in the middle of any dual carriage road, especially in the Central Business District, then you must leave.” He added that officials will be coming starting Wednesday.

He emphasized his unique approach to decongestion. “I don’t believe in bringing military men there,” he stated. Many want to sell in Adum; that’s why they are there. He plans to find clever ways to keep them in Adum while reducing congestion.

Completing stalled market projects is also a priority for Mr. Boadi. He intends to adopt strategic measures for their completion by his tenure's end.

Regarding Krofrom Market, he believes it will be finished within two years. For Kejetia Market, contractors are currently on site. Mr. Boadi will receive updates from the Regional Minister about its status and expects completion by President Mahama’s tenure end.

Fifty-five out of 56 assembly members supported the President’s nominee for chief executive of Kumasi metro. The election was moved up one day at the request of assembly members. The venue was changed to prevent party gatherings at the location.
