Kumasi fire: Renowned contractor supports victims with GHs500k

Emmanuel Aboagye, a well-known contractor, has donated 500,000 cedis. This support is for those affected by the recent fire.

The Regional Coordinating Council received the donation on behalf of the traders.

Mr. Aboagye urged victims to stay hopeful about rebuilding their businesses. He understands the importance of small businesses in Kumasi's economy. He recognizes the fire's negative impact on their livelihoods.

According to the National Disaster Management Organisation, around 2,900 people were affected by the Adum fire. Of these, 1,500 people cannot feed themselves and need food assistance from the government.

The fire destroyed three buildings occupied by traders and damaged many makeshift structures. Some traders have declined food support, but vulnerable individuals have sought help from the Regional Coordinating Council.

Interior Minister Mubarak Muntaka provided rice and oil based on reports of need. The NADMO will ensure that those in need can access these materials.

Benevolent individuals have already offered financial support to help victims rebuild their businesses. The government is also working to lessen the fire's impact on affected businesses.

President John Mahama has instructed local authorities to negotiate with banks regarding loan repayment extensions for those impacted by the Adum Blue Light Arena fire.

The RCC is compiling a list of individuals who owe money to banks for assistance.

Some victims report pressure from banks to repay loans quickly. The President has requested details about these traders and their loans for intervention purposes.

The goal is to provide some relief while supporting them in repaying their debts. The Minister noted that MASLOC’s CEO and Gender Minister are involved in this effort.

The Gender Minister is interested in a gender-specific database that they are compiling. This information will be shared with her and MASLOC by Wednesday for further action.
