President John Dramani Mahama faces criticism from Kusasi youth. They are upset about rising tensions in the Bawku area.
The youth voted for Mr. Mahama, hoping he would resolve the conflict. They feel abandoned as violence has increased since he took office three months ago.
At a press briefing, they expressed their disappointment. “We believed your promise to bring peace to Bawku,” they said. “That’s why we voted for the NDC instead of the NPP.”
They reminded the President that he recognized Naana Asigri Azorka II as the legitimate chief of Kusaug. “What has changed?” they asked. They expected quicker action on the Bawku issue after voting him into power.
The group highlighted worsening security in Bawku. Instead of peace, there has been more bloodshed under his leadership.
“Since you became President, over 18 people have died,” they stated. “This includes women and children. Is this what you intended?”
They expressed deep disappointment with Mr. Mahama's actions. The youth accused him of using their support for political gain.
“We see now that politicians exploit our conflict for votes,” they said. “They make false promises just to win our support.”
In a warning, they hinted at possible voter apathy in future elections.
“It will shock politicians to see empty ballot boxes in 2028,” they concluded. “We are tired of lies and broken promises.”
