Kwabena Adu Boahene accused of embezzling $2m state funds

Kwabena Adu Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), faces serious accusations. He is accused of embezzling state funds and laundering money through real estate investments in Accra and abroad.

The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, announced these allegations. This occurred during a news conference on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Dr. Ayine stated that Mr. Adu Boahene invested $2,217,815 in properties. This raised concerns about where the money came from.

His arrest is connected to a $7 million cyber defense system contract. This contract aimed to improve Ghana’s cybersecurity by detecting and preventing threats.

The contract was signed on January 30, 2020, with RLC Holdings Limited from Israel. It was allegedly manipulated for personal gain by Mr. Adu Boahene.

Investigations revealed that while he was NSB Director-General, he started a private business similar to NSB's operations. He managed this business alongside his wife.

Mr. Adu Boahene was arrested on Thursday, March 20, 2025. He was apprehended at Kotoka International Airport after returning from London. He remains in detention as investigations continue.
