Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Ing. Kwabena Agyepong, has urged the party to choose its next presidential candidate by December 2025. This timing would allow for proper preparation before the 2028 general elections.
Agyepong believes an early decision on leadership will ease internal tensions. It will also help the party focus on rebuilding and regaining public trust after a potential defeat in 2024.
His remarks come as the NPP reviews the outcome of the 2024 elections. The party is looking for ways to recover politically.
In an interview with Channel One TV on April 29, Agyepong said, “I think we should do it by December this year [2025]. It should be done as quickly as possible.”
He stressed that electing a flagbearer soon would enable grassroots mobilization and restructuring within the party.
“We need to build what I’m calling constituency caucuses,” he explained. He noted that current executives still have their mandates and must support whoever is elected as flagbearer.
Agyepong’s comments contribute to ongoing discussions within the NPP about its future direction. The party aims to reposition itself ahead of upcoming elections.
