Dansoman Circuit Court News
A 68-year-old pensioner and a building contractor face serious charges. They are accused of conspiracy, unlawful damage, and trespass. This follows a land dispute in Kwabenya, Greater Accra Region. The dispute led to the demolition of several structures worth thousands of cedis.
The accused are Rosaline Adjeley Ankonum, 68, and Godfred Yaw Ntifafa Tsorxe, 44. A third suspect, Peter Nii Ngleshie Addy, is currently at large. They face four charges at the Dansoman Circuit Court.
Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder leads the prosecution. He told the court that on March 28, 2025, the accused entered contested land in Kwabenya. They were accompanied by armed men in military-style uniforms and a bulldozer.
The group destroyed various properties belonging to multiple individuals. This included fence walls, a concrete mixer, and a single-room structure. Property owners Kofi Agyemang and Michael Norman had developed this land over many years.
Agyemang is the Managing Director of Paytell Company Ltd. He acquired the land from the Odai Ntow Family in 2002. He built a perimeter wall to prevent encroachment.
Later, the Nii Ngleshie Addy family claimed ownership of the land. This led to a long legal battle that ended in favor of Agyemang. The land is officially registered under his name.
Despite this ruling, Ankonum and Tsorxe allegedly demolished structures on the property. Ankonum admitted her involvement during police questioning. She presented an invalidated land certificate issued in her late father's name.
Investigations showed that this certificate was no longer valid. Official documents recognize Agyemang as the rightful owner of the land.
The prosecution informed the court that damage assessments are ongoing by Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL). Both accused pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit presided over the case. She remanded both suspects into custody for further investigation and arrests of other suspects. The case has been adjourned until June 9, 2025.
