Kwadaso Wood Market hit by second fire in two weeks

Traders at the Kwadaso Wood Market in Kumasi are grappling with massive losses after a fire tore through the market early Sunday morning.

This marks the second fire incident at a major Ashanti Region wood market within two weeks, with the earlier blaze occurring on January 4, 2025.

The inferno destroyed the main sawmill, essential equipment, and wood valued at thousands of cedis. Despite efforts by local residents to contain the fire, its intensity overwhelmed them.

While no casualties have been reported, traders are assessing the extensive damage and urging authorities to enhance fire safety measures, including the installation of fire hydrants, to prevent future disasters.
