Kwame Agbodza criticises late award of 80km Sampa-Jinijini road contract

The Roads and Highways Minister is unhappy with a recent decision.

An 80-kilometre road reconstruction project from Sampa to Jinijini was approved. The project will cost ¢800 million in 2024.

The Minister called this move irresponsible and lacking due diligence. He questioned why such a large contract was awarded at the end of the previous administration.

He criticized the decision, stating that major projects need proper planning. Transparency and accountability are essential for value for money.

The rushed nature of the contract raises concerns about procurement issues. There may also be potential financial mismanagement. The Minister called for a thorough review of the award process.

Mr. Agbodza assured the public of the current administration's commitment to prudent financial management in road projects.

He emphasized that while the Sampa-Jinijini road is vital for economic growth, contracts must follow due process. They should serve national interest, not political gain.

The Minister suggested re-evaluating the contract to check its technical and financial standards.

He reaffirmed the government's dedication to completing important road projects efficiently. Public funds must be used transparently to benefit all Ghanaians.
