Kwame Agbodza has ordered an immediate investigation into the Tarkwa-Agona Nkwanta Road.
This road is 66 kilometers long and cost €95 million to reconstruct.
It has shown visible damage just months after its completion.
Agbodza discovered this during his inspection of infrastructure projects in the Western Region on Friday.
The Project Manager, Joaquim Ferreira, explained the early damage.
He said it was mainly due to heavy-duty trucks overloading with manganese and bauxite.
If overloading continues, the road's lifespan will be greatly reduced.
This would undermine the government's significant investment in the project.
In response, Agbodza and his team inspected the Apimanim axle load station unannounced.
They found five trucks overloaded by up to 20 tonnes beyond the limit.
Agbodza stated that overloading is damaging roads and causing problems with the axle load program.
To tackle this issue, the Ministry has formed a five-member committee.
This committee will investigate how the axle load program operates nationwide.
Agbodza noted that their findings will help reform the system.
The goal is to better protect Ghana’s road infrastructure from preventable damage.
