Kwame Jantuah, a senior member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has expressed frustration with the Ghana Police Service's failure to tackle illegal mining, or "galamsey," in biodiversity reserves.
Speaking on Morning Starr, Jantuah criticized the police for not effectively enforcing laws against the practice, which has been rampant in protected forest areas.
He urged both the current and past administrations to take action, referencing an unresolved legislative instrument related to galamsey.
Jantuah also voiced concern over the environmental damage caused by mining in sensitive areas and warned against the youth's involvement in such activities.
The continued issue of illegal mining in Ghana poses significant environmental and socio-economic challenges, with critics citing ineffective law enforcement as a major factor.
