Kwesi Pratt criticizes Daily Graphic over ‘misleading’ teacher allowance report

Veteran journalist Kwesi Pratt has taken issue with the Daily Graphic over what he describes as a misleading report on the government’s stance regarding teacher training allowances.

Speaking on Metro TV, Pratt expressed confusion over the newspaper’s headline, which suggested that teacher trainee allowances would be scrapped.

However, he noted that the article’s content referred to tertiary students’ allowances in general, not specifically those for teacher trainees.

He also accused the newspaper of misrepresenting the minister’s remarks on feeding allowances, arguing that the comment applied broadly to tertiary students, not just teacher trainees. He questioned why nursing trainees—who also receive allowances—were excluded from the report.

Pratt warned that such misreporting could mislead the public and influence narratives across other media platforms.

He urged Daily Graphic to maintain its journalistic integrity, stating, “This was a low point for Graphic.”
