Lack of psychiatrists affecting mental healthcare in Bono East Region - Dr Appiah - Ghanaian Times

The Bono East Region has no psychiatrists. This makes it hard to detect and treat mental health issues.

Currently, the region relies on a few psychiatric nurses. These nurses manage mental health cases in the area.

Dr. Paulina Clara Appiah is the Bono East Regional Director of Health Services. She shared this information with the Ghanaian Times.

During emergencies, mental health cases must be referred elsewhere. Facilities like Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital handle these cases.

Dr. Appiah spoke at the 2024 Annual Performance Review in Kintampo.
