The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to intensifying efforts against illegal mining, or galamsey, particularly in the Central Region.

He announced that law enforcement agencies would soon be deployed to areas with rising illegal mining activities, focusing on a comprehensive sweep to clear illegal miners from key locations.

This decision follows concerns raised by the Ghana Water Company Limited about water supply challenges in Cape Coast and Elmina, caused by galamsey-related contamination of the River Pra.

Jinapor assured the public that the government’s anti-galamsey operation would commence within 24 hours.
