Lands Minister directs Gold Fields to vacate Damang Site as gov't takes control

The Minister for Lands, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has directed Gold Fields to leave the Daamang mining site. He supports the Minerals Commission’s decision on this matter.

The Commission will take control of the Daamang mines. Gold Fields' 30-year lease expires on April 18. AGL, a subsidiary of Gold Fields Limited, applied for renewal but was unsuccessful. The company has not mined actively since 2023.

On Wednesday, the Minister spoke to the press. He stated that the government is ready to manage mine operations fully. He assured workers that their jobs are safe and no one will be laid off.

“The Government of Ghana is committed to enforcing trade protocols,” he said. This ensures safety and orderly operations while protecting all assets. “Unauthorized assets or disruptions will not be tolerated,” he added.

He emphasized that there would be continuity and security for all workers. The government aims for transparency during this transition process.

This proactive approach seeks to secure the future of the Damang mine. It ensures operational continuity and job security for all employees involved.
