The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has taken action. He directed the immediate revocation of all mining licenses held by Akonta Mining Company Limited. This follows serious allegations of illegal mining activities, known as galamsey.
At a press conference on Monday, April 21, the Minister shared details. He stated that Akonta Mining is involved in unlawful activities. These include engaging in galamsey operations and violating mining regulations.
Mr. Buah revealed more concerning information. The company has been illegally selling concessions in the Aboi Forest. They sold these to unauthorized miners for up to GH¢300,000 or in exchange for gold royalties.
