The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, is committed to ending illegal mining in Ghana. He called illegal mining "environmental terrorism." This activity severely harms natural resources, especially water bodies.
Buah spoke at the inauguration of the Association of China-Ghana Mining (ACGM). He promised a zero-tolerance policy against illegal mining, known as galamsey. The crackdown will be fair and relentless, regardless of nationality or political ties.
His comments come amid growing concerns about environmental damage from illegal mining. This has led to significant pollution of rivers and other water sources.
Tang ZhenJiang, Chairman of ACGM, pledged to promote responsible mining practices in Ghana. He assured the government and youth that ACGM would focus on technology and community development.
The inauguration marks a key step in fostering collaboration between Ghanaian and Chinese stakeholders. It aims to adhere to environmental standards and promote sustainable practices in mining.
