The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reaffirmed the government's stance against illegal mining, known as galamsey.
In an interview with Channel One TV on March 26, he emphasized the government's commitment to addressing this issue. Illegal mining has caused significant environmental damage across the country.
He assured that all individuals involved in illegal mining will be held accountable. This applies to everyone, regardless of their political affiliation.
Armah-Kofi Buah stated that the fight against galamsey is not selective. No one will be protected from prosecution.
“The fight against galamsey is a top priority,” he declared. “We will deal with everyone involved, including NDC members.”
The Minister explained that the government is using enforcement measures and long-term strategies to combat illegal mining. Security agencies are being deployed to dismantle these operations.
Additionally, efforts are underway to provide alternative livelihoods for affected communities. The Minister assured Ghanaians that natural resources will be protected for future generations.
He called on citizens, traditional leaders, and local authorities to support the government's efforts against galamsey.
He stressed that combating illegal mining requires a collective approach. All stakeholders must work together to protect the environment.
“This is a fight we must all take seriously,” he stated. He reaffirmed the government’s determination to end this menace.
