Lands Ministry to roll out measures to tackle galamsey menace

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has launched a comprehensive approach to combat illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana.

This includes enhanced intelligence-led swoops, collaboration with chiefs, local assemblies, security agencies, and civil society organizations.

Buah emphasized the urgency of halting illegal mining, protecting forest reserves, and safeguarding water bodies. He committed to reforms in the forestry, mining, and land sectors to foster legal mining practices.

Additionally, the minister announced plans to visit traditional authorities for their support in addressing environmental crimes.

He also urged ministry staff to actively engage in restoring the country’s natural resources, noting that the fight against galamsey is a collective responsibility.
