The National Peace Council has called for calm in Bawku. They urge all factions to lay down their arms and negotiate.
In an interview on Starr Today, the Council expressed concern over ongoing unrest. They believe peace is possible if everyone shows restraint.
“Let the smoke of the peace pipe rise, not gunfire,” they said. The Council emphasized that dialogue must replace violence.
They acknowledged that the peace process is challenging but ongoing. “This has been a concern for some time,” they stated. It requires continuous effort and appeals for calm during tensions.
The Council also urged respect for the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He is working to broker lasting peace in the area.
“We appeal to all factions to exercise restraint and respect him,” they added.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to restoring stability in Bawku. They believe lasting peace is achievable and urge parties to cease fire and negotiate.
The conflict in Bawku has lasted for years, causing casualties and displacements.
