Latif Iddrisu vs IGP: 'You were not referred for advanced medical attention' — AG tells journalist

Latiff Iddrisu Latiff Iddrisu

The state has questioned journalist Latiff Iddrisu's choice to seek medical treatment in California. They argue he lacks a proper referral from any local medical facility. This is part of the ongoing legal battle with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney General (AG).

During cross-examination on Monday, Senior State Attorney Nancynetta Twumasi Asiamah stated that Iddrisu’s evidence does not include referrals. He was treated at Loma Linda University Medical Center and the Southern California Brain Center.

The state’s legal team has spent seven years trying to undermine Iddrisu’s claims. He alleges he was brutally assaulted by Ghana Police officers in March 2018. Medical records confirm he suffered a skull fracture and other complications.

Despite this, the state argues no police officer assaulted him. They contradict Iddrisu's consistent testimony and medical evidence.

In 2023, the Attorney General informed the court about advising the IGP to settle out of court. They suggested compensating Iddrisu for his injuries. However, when the case resumed, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare declined to settle.

He preferred to continue through the judicial system instead. The state seems to be distancing itself from responsibility for Iddrisu's injuries.

Latif Iddrisu and his employer remain determined to seek justice. They want a ruling that holds the Ghana Police Service accountable for their actions.

To expedite proceedings, the current judge allotted ten hearing days for April 2025. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts with the AG’s representative, seven hearing days have already been lost.

The case is set to resume on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Senior State Attorney Nancynetta Twumasi Asiamah will continue her cross-examination of Latif Iddrisu then.
