Private legal practitioner Kwame Adofo has raised concerns about "media trials" in Ghana. He criticized the Attorney-General for holding a press conference about a suspect who had not been charged.
Adofo believes this practice undermines fair trial principles and due process. He stated, “It’s unprecedented. It has never happened before in this country.”
He expressed disbelief that a press conference was organized for an uncharged suspect. Adofo noted that no previous Attorney-General has done this, including Marietta Brew and Godfred Dame.
He argued that legal matters should be discussed in court, not at press briefings. Adofo was particularly troubled by the Attorney-General's claim that the case was “criminally designed.”
He said, “That is a conclusion of fact—not meant for prosecutors or police.” He concluded that such events should never have occurred.
