Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, convener of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, has criticized Ghana's leaders for failing to address illegal mining, which is polluting the country’s water bodies.
He blamed the issue on a widespread leadership failure, from local authorities to national leaders, pointing out that illegal mining continues openly without intervention.
Speaking to JoyNews, Dr. Ashigbey expressed concern over the safety of drinking water, even in treated forms, and called for legal action against those responsible.
He urged President Akufo-Addo to follow the example of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in holding officials accountable.
