Leadership failures cost NPP the 2024 election – Ibrahim Adjei

Ibrahim Adjei, a former Assistant Secretary under President Nana Akufo-Addo, spoke about the NPP's defeat in the 2024 elections. He believes leadership failures at the top contributed significantly to this loss.

In an interview on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, Adjei defended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He said Bawumia is addressing what Ghanaians want to hear.

Adjei emphasized that Ghanaians value honesty across all political parties. “Integrity resonates well with Ghanaians,” he stated. He described honesty and integrity as important qualities.

He disagreed with those who think Bawumia is distancing himself from past failures. Instead, he pointed out that leadership arrogance during Akufo-Addo’s time is the real issue.

Adjei criticized Akufo-Addo for not reshuffling his cabinet over eight years. “You say you have capable people but kept the same ones,” he remarked.

He specifically called out Akufo-Addo’s refusal to remove Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. Many party members wanted Ofori-Atta changed, but Akufo-Addo remained loyal to him.

“You had 120 MPs asking for Ofori-Atta's removal,” Adjei noted. “But you didn’t act because of your loyalty.” He acknowledged Ofori-Atta's support during the campaign but stressed that changes were necessary when things go wrong.
