Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has denied claims of a raid at former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison's home.
On March 24, he addressed the press and clarified that it was a legal search, not a raid as reported.
Dr. Ayine, who is also the Bolgatanga East MP, stated that law enforcement followed due process. They obtained necessary search warrants before conducting their operation.
He emphasized, "There are limits to what you can do regarding searches." He offered to provide the warrants if requested by the media.
"There was no raid on his house," he said. "What we did was constitutionally sanctioned."
Dr. Ayine also rejected allegations that security operatives stole GH₵10,000 during the search. He called such claims an "insult" to law enforcement officers.
He accused Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin of defaming law enforcement and the Attorney General’s office by calling it a raid.
"We have a recording of Dr. Addison about the search," he noted. "If Afenyo-Markin dares, we will make that recording available."
He urged Afenyo-Markin to stop maligning public officials doing their jobs legally.
As leader of the Bar, Dr. Ayine is committed to ethical legal practices. He confirmed that both EOCO and National Security were advised to operate within legal boundaries during investigations.
"Afenyo-Markin should not misuse his parliamentary immunity," he added, referring to defamation against public officials performing their duties.
