Let's avoid partisanship in pursuit of peace for Bawku - Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has condemned the politicization of the crisis in Bawku. This conflict is in the Upper East Region of Ghana.

Dr. Bawumia spoke during the NPP's national Thank You Tour on Tuesday. He was in the Western North Region at the time. He said some politicians are using this crisis for their selfish interests, which harms peace.

He described this situation as "unfortunate." Dr. Bawumia stated, "The politicization of the crisis in Bawku is very unfortunate." He emphasized that some people prioritize their own interests over stability.

He accused others of spreading lies about him regarding the conflict. They claimed he was buying guns for Mamprusis to kill Kusasis. He expressed sadness upon hearing these false accusations.

Dr. Bawumia noted that even some NPP members believed and spread these lies. He believes God has exposed those who promoted these falsehoods.

He added that events in Bawku have shown how the NDC lied for political gain. "Today, everyone has seen their lies," he said.

"By God's grace, many now know the truth," he continued. Those who spread lies have been exposed, he asserted. He urged everyone not to play politics with the Bawku issue.

Dr. Bawumia called for unity to achieve lasting peace in Bawku. He urged politicians to stop exploiting chieftaincy issues for political gain.

"As politicians, we must be careful with chieftaincy issues," he warned. The NDC's actions have backfired on them, he noted.

"I want peace in Bawku more than anyone else," he concluded. He hopes that Otumfuo's mediation team will bring much-needed peace to the area.
