Kwabena Agyepong, former General Secretary of the NPP, has spoken out. He is also a flagbearer aspirant. Agyepong advised the party not to blame others for their defeat in the December 7, 2024 elections.
He emphasized that the party should focus on moving forward. They need to understand what caused their significant loss and take action. In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV, he said they must avoid being “imprisoned by the past.” Instead, they should learn meaningful lessons from this experience.
Agyepong noted issues within the party's internal election processes. He mentioned vote buying and manipulation have led to dissatisfaction among members. Some believe it’s time to shift from an electoral college system to a broader voting base of card-bearing members.
He stated, “I don’t want to go into history because you can’t reverse it.” Learning from past mistakes is crucial for political parties. This is why they formed the Oquaye committee.
He stressed that it’s important not to dwell on past failures. The NPP has many platforms for discussion, and people are unhappy with the current closed electoral system. There are two options: either keep the current system or open it up to all card-bearing members.
When asked about blaming individuals for their defeat, Agyepong disagreed strongly. He said assigning blame does not change their situation as they are now in opposition. He believes focusing on rebuilding is more productive than looking back.
Agyepong urged party members to regain public confidence and respect. “No corporate entity shares its strategy plan publicly,” he explained. Rebuilding trust with supporters is essential for future success.
