President John Dramani Mahama has called for unity among African leaders. He urged civil society organizations, youth groups, and the diaspora to join in seeking justice.
In his Africa Day 2025 message, Mahama emphasized collective action. He believes this is essential to heal historical wounds and unlock Africa’s potential.
“Let us work together for a future of justice,” he stated. He wants to heal past wounds and realize the potential of all Africans.
Mahama explained that reparations go beyond financial compensation. They also involve acknowledging the lasting impacts of slavery, colonialism, and neo-colonialism.
He called for official apologies from institutions responsible for these injustices. He also requested debt relief for African nations and the return of stolen cultural artifacts.
“We seek justice that includes addressing crippling debt burdens,” he noted. This debt stifles economic growth due to exploitation and unfair trade practices.
Mahama highlighted the need to invest in education about African history. He urged leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue on reparatory justice.
“Let Africa Day 2025 be a turning point,” he declared. He encouraged a commitment to building a prosperous continent with equality for all people.
