Let’s reset Ghana, not witch-hunt – Billa Alamzy defends EOCO

Niyema Billa Alamzy, the MP for Chiana-Paga, defended ongoing legal actions against public officials. He responded to accusations of political witch-hunting related to the arrest of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi.

During a segment on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Alamzy rejected claims that the government targets political opponents. He argued that these actions aim to promote accountability and clean up the system.

“We are not witch hunting anybody,” he stated. “We are inviting them to help us reset this country.”

Alamzy emphasized that political affiliation should not protect anyone from the law. He said those who misuse their office must face consequences. “If you misbehave or embezzle resources, that is your own case,” he added.

He criticized the trend of public loyalty declarations in legal matters. He called for objective scrutiny instead of emotional support. “We need to understand why we are targeting certain individuals,” he explained.

Addressing concerns about recent arrests, Alamzy urged calm and cooperation with law enforcement. He referenced the Ghanaian Constitution, stating citizens can seek redress if they feel mistreated.

“Article 125 gives you the power to go to court if you feel unfairly treated,” he noted.

He cautioned party supporters against causing chaos during arrests, referencing incidents involving Wontumi’s followers. “You saw the crowd when security went for Chairman Wontumi,” he said.

While advising agencies against aggressive tactics, he insisted on swift action against attempts to obstruct justice. “Preventing arrest is a crime in this country with laws,” he asserted.
