Let’s support Otumfuo, Peace Council to resolve Bawku conflict -Rev. Adu-Gyamfi

Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi Addresses the Media

Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, the former Chairman of the National Peace Council, has called for support for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. He is the Asantehene leading mediation efforts in the Bawku conflict.

Dr. Adu-Gyamfi emphasized that resolving conflicts is challenging, especially with a long history. He stressed the need for tact in these situations.

He noted that skilled mediators are available to help resolve this issue. Therefore, he urged citizens to support these professionals in their work.

Dr. Adu-Gyamfi made his remarks last Tuesday during the Ghana Baptist Convention Ministers' Conference at Ejura in Ashanti Region.

He explained that while the president appointed the Asantehene as mediator, other stakeholders are also involved. The Upper East Regional Peace Council is working on de-escalating tensions to aid Otumfuo's efforts.

He urged media outlets to report responsibly and avoid escalating conflicts to maintain peace.

Regarding illegal mining (galamsey), Dr. Adu-Gyamfi stated it is a national problem that should not be politicized. He encouraged both parties to collaborate on solutions to eliminate this issue.

He pointed out that galamsey activities allow harmful individuals to threaten national security.

“We must all work together to stop galamsey,” he said, noting its destruction of water bodies and forests.

On legislative matters, Dr. Adu-Gyamfi discussed Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462 and its implications. He urged Parliamentarians to analyze it carefully and interpret it correctly.

He believes political parties should unite to address this issue constructively rather than blame each other. This approach will help maximize the benefits from Ghana's mineral resources.
